Iregui,Ana; Melo,Ligia; Ramírez,María;
Lecturas de Economía , 2012,
Abstract: this paper explores firms' wage adjustment practices in the colombian formal labor market; specifically, the timing and frequency of wage increases, as well as the link between wage and price changes. we use a survey of 1,305 firms belonging to all economic sectors. the results show that most firms adjust base wages annually, increases were concentrated around observed inflation and none of the firms cut wages. moreover, factors associated with the performance of firms and workers alike are the main determinants of wage adjustments. the link between wages and price changes is stronger in sectors where labor costs represent a higher share of total costs and in firms operating in sectors with higher labor productivity.

Abstract: The leaves of Bauhinia forficata L. (Fabaceae) are used in Brazilian folk medicine mainly as antidiabetic agent. They are rich in polyphenols, and kaempferitrin and other flavonoids are currently considered as basic chemical criteria for the quality and the effectiveness of extracts and phytopharmaceuticals derived from them. Aiming to expand the scope of current data of the chemical profile of B. forficata subsp. forficata, the present study employed HPLC-DAD and HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS to compare the flavonoid profile and kaempferitrin content in the leaves of specimens collected seasonally during one year, in two different locations in Southeastern Brazil: Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and São Paulo (SP) states. The data showed a variation in the flavonoid profile and in the kaempferitrin content depending on the place of collection and the season of the year. The target compound, kaempferitrin, was found to be only a minor constituent in RJ (0.21 - 1.02 μg/mg), and was mostly absent or occurred as trace in SP location (0.00 - 0.12 μg/mg). Some degree of similarity was observed in the flavonoid profiles according to the region of collection. In agreement with some published reports, the low and quite variable kaempferitrin content as well the wide variability of the flavonoid profiles brings into question the dubious matter of using these compounds as chemical markers for this medicinal species.

Abstract: bee pollen moisture value is one of the quality parameters for this product. some countries such as argentina, brazil, bulgaria, poland and switzerland have bee pollen regulations on quality parameters, but these are not clear regarding which method should be used for moisture determination. the aim of this paper was to compare six methods of moisture determination in dried bee pollen samples. the methods were: conventional oven at 100 °c, vacuum oven at 70 °c, desiccator with sulfuric acid, drying out process with infrared light at 85 °c, lyophilization and karl fisher's method. based on the results, the best methods for moisture determination of bee pollen were the drying process with infrared and the lyophilization, since these have shown lower moisture values.

Química Nova , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-40422010000300004
Abstract: this study evaluated the stability of vitamins c, e and β-carotene in six samples of bee pollen after their process, and in a one-year period of storage. after the pollen's process, there was a 67.1% increase for vitamin c (p <0.05), an 18.7% loss for vitamin e and 15.6% for β-carotene. storage in freezer was the most efficient condition for the vitamins conservation; the loss in storage at room temperature (exposed or protected from light) was similar. vitamin e appears to be better preserved during storage when compared to vitamin c and β-carotene.

Abstract: the brazilian cooperative study group on pediatric myelodysplastic syndromes (gcb-smd-ped) started in january 1997 with the goal of studying under 18-year-old patients with mds or suspected mds from all over the country. some primary or secondary disorders are incorrectly called mds. because of this the gcb-smd-ped is a referral group in the country to review and also to give diagnostic support (morphology, genetics, etc.). some groups still use the fab classification but two new classifications for pediatric cases have been published: one from the sick children's hospital, university of toronto, canada the "ccc classification" (category, cytology and cytogenetic), and the who pediatric classification by hasle et al. our proposal here is to present data from the 173 pediatric cases which were referred to the gcb-smd-ped from 15 states (41 centers). from 1983 to 1997, 51 pediatric cases were registered as retrospective cases and from january 1998 to february 2003, 122 prospective cases were registered. from these 173 cases, 93 where confirmed as mds. in 36.5% of them there was a transformation into acute leukemia with 82.3% as aml and 17.7% as all. the follow up showed that 54.8% died, 5.4% had spontaneous remission and 16.1% were in treatment with no chemotherapy (just transfusion or conservative approach). infections were the primary cause of death (58.8%). additionally, in this article the diagnostic approach according to classical or molecular genetics is shown with a review of literature for bone marrow transplantation in pediatric cases and other aspects which are different from the approach offered to adult patients with mds.

Revista Brasileira de Farmacognosia , 2012,
Abstract: The in vitro schistosomicidal effects of the essential oil obtained from Tagetes erecta L. Asteraceae, leaves (TE-EO) collected in Brazil against Schistosoma mansoni worms are reported in this paper. The oil caused a significant decrease in the motor activity at 50 μg/mL as minimal concentration after 24 h. This oil also caused death of all the parasites and the separation of coupled pairs into individual male and female at 100 μg/mL after 24 h. The viability of adult worm groups treated with the TE-EO at 100 μg/mL was similar to that of groups treated with praziquantel (positive control). In addition, the oil promoted the inhibition of eggs development at all the tested concentrations. These data indicate that the TE-EO could be considered as a promising source for the development of new schistosomicidal agents.
